Customised,
'hands-on' copywriting training courses for companies and other organisations
are a great way of enabling staff to develop individual copywriting skills for
print and online in a focused but relaxed setting. They're also an excellent opportunity
to build in-house copywriting 'awareness' in general - and improve the way copy
is briefed and managed within the creative process. Recent
Tim Trout Copywriting training clients have included:

Burges Salmon LLP solicitors
Business West and Business Link
City and County of Swansea

What differentiates a customised copywriting training course from a course
that's 'off the peg'? Customised copywriting training courses are each
designed specifically to suit individual client need, rather than serve up recycled
generalisations. Delegates benefit directly from Tim Trout's extensive experience
gained copywriting for a broad range of clients both in the UK, in Europe and
beyond. Workshops are busy and intensive but always fun and friendly, with lively
debate very much the order of the day.
What does 'hands-on' copywriting training mean? Building on core
introductory modules, each 'hands-on' course also explores topics of specific
client interest agreed in advance. Once 'the essentials' of each topic are identified
and explored together, delegates then put theory into practice. The results of
short, hands-on exercises composed on a laptop or PC and focusing on pre-agreed,
'real life' scenarios are then reviewed within the group.
What course modules are available? Each client has different needs
and priorities. That's why all copywriting training courses are customised on
a 'mix and match' basis drawing from the following areas, with new, client-specific
material devised as required:
- What makes
good copy? And what can make it fail?
- How to structure and write a copywriting
brief
- Copywriting for websites and search engines (SEO)
- DM (direct
marketing) copy for print and email - Copywriting for leaflets, brochures
and annual reviews/reports
- Structuring and writing press ads
-
How to write - and 'sell' - a press release
- Researching and writing for
newsletters
- Grammar: does it matter? And, if it does, which bits?
-
Identifying - and using - the right tone of voice
- Developing themes and
ideas
- Copy checking and proofreading techniques
When and where are TTC copywriting training courses held? Courses
are 'workshop' in style and scheduled to suit individual client requirements -
often on client premises if it's practical and convenient to do so. Sessions can
take place in a training suite or other suitable workspace where there's room
for delegates and presenter, plus a flipchart/whiteboard and projector screen.
Delegates also require access to a PC or laptop, working either solo or in pairs,
for practical sessions. If no 'in-house' facility is available, an appropriate
space can easily be sourced in a hotel, business centre or other appropriate location.
How long do courses last? Some clients prefer a number of shorter,
half-day sessions; others opt for an intensive full day or two. Workshops can
be devised to fit your schedule.
Is there a preferred minimum - or maximum - class size? Since courses
are interactive, and effective learning thrives on discussion to explore ideas,
between 2 and 8 delegates is ideal. However, one-to-one sessions are excellent
for sharpening up specific skills; larger groups can also be accommodated on request.
How much do courses cost? Each course is customised, and therefore
different, so email now with your content requirements and likely numbers for
an estimate of costs. Course fees for larger groups attract a per head
reduction. Any expenses such as the hire of outside facilities and equipment,
or catering, are in addition.
